5 day challenge to become successful in any area of your life! Day 3.

Hi all,

Dennis here from change it coaching, with day 3 of our 5-day challenge: how to become successful in any area of your life!

In day 1 we covered the importance of Clarity in your life and the first steps in achieving this.

Day 2 was all about Energy, and how this impacts your everyday life, either positively or negatively. You are in charge and responsible for the energy you bring to any interaction during the day. Therefore, be very mindful next time you are going to have a chat with your spouse for example.

The topic for day 3 is: Do you know why you are here or in other words, what is your bigger purpose in this life? And as an addition, how clear are you on the goals that you want to achieve?

Let's dive right into it.

Finding out what your purpose in life is, is a very deep question and not one that you probably can answer in a minute, unless you have been through some courses or life changing experiences before.

When I grew up I always wanted to be a police officer, or fire man, just like any other young boy. I wanted to become this, so I could protect and help people.

Later on that developed in to being a physical therapist and gym instructor, so I could help people become better physically and have a better quality of life.

And not until the last 10 years or so, I combined everything together and I found my purpose in life.

See, all the things I thought I wanted to be over the course of many years, they all had a general thing in common: to help people to become better.

I always knew something inside me was there to make sure to help others, because for me personally, my biggest satisfaction is to see the people that I have helped, be it in the gym, or as a sports massage therapist, (I never was fortunate enough to reach it to physical therapist) or the last years in my position as manager, succeed in all that we had planned for.

I firmly believe in the saying from the legend, Zig Ziglar:

" You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want" - Zig Ziglar

And that believe really started to make sense when I met my first mentor, who was extremely helpful and giving to his community. He is a marvelous person, and even though we only met for 3 days, he impacted my life and my work tremendously.

I want to help you, as good as I can, to find your purpose in life, and I will do so by asking a few questions. It is actually a 2-part exercise of my personal performance coaching sessions. If you are interested in more of the details of the full process, please feel free to comment or send me an email: changeitcoaching@gmail.com

Before you can even think of finding out about your purpose, there is one crucial thing you have to understand! If you want to fully live by your purpose, you need to be absolutely clear that in your life there is only one person responsible for anything that happens to you. That person is YOU!!

We often times get so caught up in the blame game, and I was part of that as well for a long time in my career, hence, this brought me some real troubles over the past years.

Instead of admitting our mistakes or taking full responsibility, we tend to blame the weather, the bosses, my colleagues, the dog or the economy! But in the end, we all know that only one person is responsible.

Every day, be it at work, at home, in your church or at the school of the kids, there are many events happening to us, and most of the time, it's a fact that these things will cross your path.

As any normal human being, if someone jumps the line at the grocery store for example, we tend to stop the person, argue a bit and probably use a little swear word here and there, because it's an event that is triggers our negative emotions. We will blame the person, blame the cashier, maybe blame your kid as they were not fast enough coming back from the toy section. What if the person who jumped the line has an emergency of life and death, completely rushed and pressured, if you would know that, would you respond the same? Probably not!

It's very important to know, that how you respond is more important than the event.

Jack Canfield even created a formula for it:

Event + Response = Outcome (E+R=O), as I mentioned before, it's not the event that's the problem, it's your response to the event that creates a problem, or an opportunity of course. Let's stay a bit positive here!

The next part of the process to find your purpose, after we have already successfully found our clarity in the previous days, is built on 2 exercises:

Exercise 1:

As we are looking for a positive and meaningful life, we need to create positive memories or moments, which we can use in case of 'emergency'.

Create a list of most joyful memories that you have experienced and find the commonalities.

Exercise 2:

1) List 2 of your unique selling points that you think best describe you (e.g. enthusiasm, creativity);

2) list minimum 2 ways that you use the qualities on a daily basis while interacting with those around you (e.g. to support, to inspire);

3) Assume for a second that you live in THE perfect world, what does it look like? How are people treating each other? What does it feel like? And, please write this in a full sentence, in the present tense. For example: Everyone is freely expressing their unique talent, or Everyone is working in harmony;

4) Now it's time to build a full purpose sentence, using the previous 3 points, so for example:

My purpose is to use my creativity and enthusiasm, to support and inspire others to freely express their talents in a harmonious and loving way.

Take some real quality time to go through each of the exercises and remember, this works only if you repeat this daily, it's just like taking a shower, you that (hopefully) daily as well!

If you find today's challenge helpful, please don't be selfish, share this with anyone you think is ready to become successful in life, just like you.

Let's get ready for Day 4!

Excited to find out what that is??
